Network Engineer

The company is an innovative game development studio at the forefront of 3D mobile game creation. Currently in the early stages of development, we are committed to designing immersive, well-crafted gaming experiences powered by our proprietary game engine. Our team is international, consisting of developers, game designers, and 3D artists from Ukraine, Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, among other countries.

For which tasks (responsibilities)?

The Role

We’re looking for a Mid-level Network Engineer to take ownership of our current in-datacenter private network and help us expand the networking stack over time. This role mixes hands-on network operations today with more advanced routing / DDoS / traffic analysis work in the future as we grow.

Responsibilities

Current scope (now)

• Manage a small in-datacenter private network consisting of 2 racks.

• Work with the existing setup that includes:

  • Cisco ASA (ASA firewall)

  • 2 managed switches trunked via optics

• Set up VM-based configurations for testing purposes, including:

  • Linux-based environments

  • netem to simulate “bad Internet” conditions

• Test various CDNs (content delivery networks), including creating/maintaining setups needed for consistent testing.

Future scope (as we grow; not immediately, but planned)

You’ll help set up new networks as the company scales, covering a wide spectrum of networking tasks, including:

• Setting up new networks end-to-end as we expand.

• Implementing basic firewall-level DDoS protection.

• Performing production tcpdump analysis (real traffic troubleshooting and deep dives).

• Obtaining a BGP tree.

• Experimenting with BGP-based DDoS protection, which includes:

  • Setting up our own AS (Autonomous System)

• Peer routing analysis, and related routing/traffic engineering work (“and so on” as the networking footprint expands).

What kind of professional are we looking for?

Requirements (must-have)

• Strong knowledge and practical experience with L2/L3 networking.

• Hands-on experience with managed switches and routers, including:

  • setting up Linux or FreeBSD as a router

• Hands-on experience with firewalls and understanding of firewall best practices, including at least one of:

  • nftables, iptables, pf, ipfw, ip filter

• Solid understanding of firewall best practices (secure configuration, least privilege, safe exposure, etc.).

Nice to Have (plus)

• Experience with / understanding of Wireshark and/or tcpdump.
